Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: 25 September 2026
The short version
- Use OpenWill honestly, for your own will.
- Never pressure anyone into making or changing a will.
- Never make a false report of someone's death. We treat this as fraud.
This policy forms part of our Terms of Service. It applies to everyone who uses OpenWill, including account holders, executors, beneficiaries and witnesses.
1. You must not use OpenWill to:
Misuse wills or the release process
- create a will for someone else, or in someone else's name;
- pressure, coerce or unduly influence anyone into making, changing or cancelling a will;
- make a false or misleading report that someone has died, or confirm a Live Will release you know or suspect is not genuine;
- try to access documents or information that haven't been released to you.
Misuse other people's information
- add someone's details without a genuine reason, or harass the people you invite;
- impersonate anyone or misrepresent your identity or role;
- upload information about other people that you're not entitled to share.
Break the law or harm the Service
- do anything illegal, fraudulent or harmful;
- upload viruses, malware or harmful code;
- try to gain unauthorised access to OpenWill, other accounts, or our systems, except under our responsible disclosure process on the Security page;
- scrape, copy, reverse engineer or resell the Service or our templates;
- overload or disrupt the Service, or bypass its security features.
2. What we'll do
If we reasonably believe someone has broken this policy, we may:
- pause any Live Will release while we investigate;
- remove content, or limit or suspend access;
- close the account; and
- report the matter to the police or other authorities, particularly in cases of fraud or false death reports.
3. Reporting a concern
If you're worried someone is being pressured, or that a release isn't genuine, contact us straight away at support@openwill.app. If someone is in immediate danger, call 999 (or your local emergency number).
