Membership & Subscription Terms
Last updated: 28 September 2026
The short version
- Your will is free forever. Live Will membership is optional.
- It costs £6.99 a month or £59.99 a year (or the local price shown at checkout), and renews automatically until you cancel.
- We'll remind you before your membership renews.
- You can cancel online at any time, in as few steps as it took to join.
- You can request a full refund within 14 days of any purchase or renewal.
- If your membership ends, Live Will stops, and your documents won't be released after your death.
These terms apply to Live Will membership, alongside our Terms of Service.
1. The plans
| Plan | Price | Billed |
|---|---|---|
| Live Will Monthly | £6.99 | Every month |
| Live Will Annual | £59.99 | Every year |
Where Paddle makes local-currency pricing available, the checkout shows that local price and that is the price you'll pay. Otherwise you'll be charged in GBP, and your bank may add conversion fees. Depending on where you live, VAT, GST or sales tax may be included or added at checkout. Paddle calculates and displays applicable VAT, GST or sales tax before you pay.
Both plans include the same features: regular check-ins, a private document vault, two-executor release confirmation, and beneficiary dashboards limited to each person's allocations.
Creating, editing and downloading your will stays free, whether or not you're a member.
2. Payment
We take your first payment when you join, and then at the start of each billing period. Our order process is conducted by our online reseller, Paddle.com Market Limited ("Paddle"). Paddle is the Merchant of Record for all our orders and is the seller of the Live Will membership for payment purposes. Paddle handles payment processing, invoicing, applicable taxes, customer service enquiries relating to orders, and returns and refunds. The name Paddle may appear on your card or bank statement. We don't store your full card details.
Payment, billing, tax, cancellation and refund mechanics are also governed by Paddle's Buyer Terms.
3. Automatic renewal
Your membership renews automatically at the end of each billing period, using the payment method on your account, until you cancel.
Renewal reminders. We'll email you:
- for annual plans, at least 14 days before each renewal, with the date and amount; and
- for monthly plans, at least every six months, reminding you that your membership is active, what it costs, and how to cancel.
4. Price changes
If we change the price, we'll tell you at least 30 days before it applies to you. The new price starts at your next renewal after that notice. If you don't want to continue, you can cancel before then.
5. How to cancel
Sign in and go to Live Will → Manage billing, then cancel in the secure billing portal. You can also email support@openwill.app. We'll confirm your cancellation by email.
When you cancel, your membership stays active until the end of the period you've already paid for, and then stops. We won't charge you again.
6. Your 14-day refund right
You can request a full refund within 14 calendar days of your initial purchase or any renewal, for any reason, wherever you live. In the UK and EU this is a legal right; we offer it to everyone. Refunds are for the full amount paid — we don't deduct anything for the days you were a member.
Refunds are processed by Paddle, our Merchant of Record. To request one, visit paddle.net or email support@openwill.app. See our Refund & Cancellation Policy.
7. Failed payments
If a payment fails, we'll let you know and try again over the next 14 days. During this time, your Live Will protection stays active. If we still can't take payment, your membership will end, and we'll email you to tell you. Your documents won't be released after your death once membership has ended.
8. What happens when membership ends
When your membership ends, for any reason:
- check-ins stop, and the release process is switched off;
- your documents won't be released to your beneficiaries after your death;
- your will and account stay available on the free plan;
- your vault documents stay available to you, read-only, for 90 days, so you can download them. After that we'll delete them, and we'll remind you by email before we do. During the read-only period you can download the files but cannot add or replace them.
If you rejoin before your documents are deleted, your vault and settings are restored.
9. If a member dies
When a Live Will release is completed, or we're told of a member's death with reasonable evidence, we stop taking payments. The estate can ask for a refund of any unused portion of an annual membership by contacting bereavement@openwill.app.
10. Changes to membership features
If we make a change that significantly reduces what membership includes, we'll tell you in advance. You can cancel and receive a pro-rata refund for any unused period you've paid for.
